Huntsman Gay Global Capital (HGGC), a leading private equity firm with $1.1 billion in assets under management, is looking for an exceptional individual to join its Portfolio Group. This Manager position will entail a wide variety of operational responsibilities, including:
- Facilitate the discovery, understanding, and prioritization of key strategic, operational and organizational issues AND the key performance improvement levers that will drive value improvement
- Develop (and, at times, manage) practical project plans with clear objectives to realize the value of performance improvement levers in a defined time frame
- Design and implement appropriate metrics that identify salient issues and point toward appropriate solutions
- Develop and manage hard-hitting, pragmatic programs and tools that provide leverage across the firm and across the portfolio
- Creatively engage with external resources and internal team members to foster innovative solutions to grow company value in a collaborative way
The ideal candidate will have a BS technical undergraduate degree, an MBA and approximately five to 10 years of work experience. This work experience will ideally include a combination of operating roles at a company and consulting roles at a management consulting firm. The position requires strong analytical problem solving abilities, established written and interpersonal skills, a dedicated work ethic, and a desire to be an integral part of a world-class team. Additionally, candidates should be strategic thinkers with solid business judgment, have a familiarity with financial statements and financial modeling, and adept at the use of technology to solve business challenges.
Position will be located in our Palo Alto office. Compensation will be competitive, including co-investment rights.

Position Overview:
Huntsman Gay Global Capital, LLC, which is headquartered in Palo Alto, CA, is a leading middle-market private equity firm with $1.1 billion in assets under management. Huntsman Gay seeks a qualified IT Manager to join its world-class team.
The IT Manager is responsible for all aspects of information technology and telecommunications for Huntsman Gay. Support and implementation services are expected to be provided by a combination of the IT Manager’s own direct skill set and 3rd party vendor service providers under contract. The IT Manager should be able to effectively direct his/her own efforts while overseeing the ongoing activities of all 3rd party service providers.
Huntsman Gay is a dynamic, high-demand, professional environment with business needs that are uniquely dependent on its information technology and telecommunications infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, self-directed and able to make effective judgments based on business needs, as well as work positively under pressure. The candidate’s ability to work and interact effectively with high-level business professionals (“executives”) is critical. The IT Manager position requires the ability to support both a sophisticated technical infrastructure, which currently spans four (4) office locations nationwide, and a sophisticated group of “high-touch” business users, who work remotely and travel frequently. Huntsman Gay requires the ability to support both PC and Mac environments.
Position Responsibilities:
- Overseeing the administration, support and maintenance of all information technology and telecommunications systems, including:
- Providing direct, hands-on troubleshooting and support as necessary and/or appropriate, especially in the following circumstances:
- Executive support needs
- Critical outages and/or business interruptions
- Other business requirements demanding prioritized, timely responses
- Providing a central IT Project Management function, including scope, budget and implementation management of all IT projects, which may incorporate:
- Centrally coordinating and managing all user support requests, including:
- Prioritization
- Escalation
- Routing and assignment
- Quality review
- Post-mortem process improvement
- Overseeing IT asset management, including vendor relationships, hardware and software purchases, and inventory control, which will incorporate the following functions:
- Scheduling and shipping equipment that requires outside repair
- Tracking and maintaining warranties on all computer equipment
- Tracking and maintaining all software licenses owned by Huntsman Gay, including installation media, license keys, and deployment information
- Providing central management and oversight of all 3rd party technology service providers, including:
- Quality assurance
- Budget management
- Coordination of multi-vendor activities
- Contract renewal and renegotiation
- Ongoing definition of business needs related to each 3rd party service provider
- Centrally maintaining and managing all support documentation
- Providing regular reporting to executives mission critical matters, including:
- Budget compliance
- Systems performance and stability
- Emerging business needs for IT
- IT evolution roadmap
- Monitoring backup systems to ensure that routine backups are performed as scheduled and regularly validating that backup data is available and useful
- Assisting executives and 3rd party service providers with planning and setup of new office locations
- Evaluating and testing new and existing vendor-supplied software packages to determine compatibility with existing systems, ease of use, and appropriateness to meet current and future business needs
- Providing end-user training as needed, including:
- On-boarding of new employees
- Covering evening and weekend work as may be frequently required to maintain systems that cannot be updated during normal working hours
Job Qualifications:
- 5 years related experience, or equivalent combination of experience and training
- Experience with private equity, venture capital, financial services and/or legal services businesses
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong working knowledge of Windows Server 2008, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7, including installation, support, and troubleshooting
- Strong working knowledge of Active Directory (2003/2008) and Exchange 2007
- Strong working knowledge of MS SQL 2005 and/or 2008
- Strong working knowledge of local and wide area network connectivity systems and standards, including MPLS and IPSEC VPN
- Experience installing servers, basic routers and peripherals, including printers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, etc.
- Knowledge and understanding of information security best practices and standards
- Experience maintaining IT records for hardware, software, service and reference materials
- Desire to learn and implement structured project management methodologies
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions
- Ability to create and abide by procedure manuals
- Ability to apply sound business judgment and common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
